Editing an academic text is an integral part of producing a high-quality research output. Even experienced researchers may encounter difficulties when revising their own work. In such cases, artificial intelligence-based tools can be of great assistance. This chapter provides a guide to working with Thesify.ai — an AI-based tool for analyzing, improving, and optimizing academic texts.

Thesify.ai

Editing an academic text involves not only correcting grammatical and stylistic errors, but also improving text structure, clarifying formulations, and ensuring logical coherence. However, even experienced researchers may face challenges when editing their own work, especially when dealing with complex scientific concepts and terminology. In such cases, artificial intelligence-based tools can significantly simplify the editing process and enhance text quality.
One such tool is Thesify.ai, a platform that leverages AI capabilities to analyze, improve, and optimize academic texts. The platform is primarily designed for working with English-language texts. You will be able to fully unlock the platform’s AI potential if you plan to publish your work in an international journal. The AI also understands Russian-language texts, but feedback and comments on your work will still be provided in English. In this case, the simplest solution is to use a browser’s built-in automatic translator — for example, the one available in Yandex Browser.
When uploading a text to the platform, you select the document type and can fill in additional fields with requirements for the work and the field of research to obtain more accurate analysis results.

After uploading the text, the AI offers an analysis of your work across two sections:
  • Feedback
  • Resources

Feedback Section

Text analysis is conducted across several parameters:
  • Feedback summary
    Overall analysis of the work
  • Suggested topics
Additional questions assessing alignment with the research goal
  • Purpose
    Research purpose
  • Evidence
    Presented evidence
  • Thesis statement
    Main hypothesis, key research claim
  • Reading score
    Text readability index
    (available only for English-language texts)

Text evaluation parameters presented in the Feedback section

The Feedback summary highlights strengths and weaknesses of the work, provides an overall assessment, and offers recommendations for improving the text.

Resources Section

The Resources section consists of three parts:
  • Publications
Publications that may be useful for your work
  • Journals
Academic journals suitable for submitting your future article
  • Conferences
Upcoming international conferences where you can present your research
All resources are provided with links to original websites and platforms. This section works best when the original research text is in English (for Russian-language texts, matches with journals and publications are not always optimal).

Quillbot

Another useful tool for text editing is the AI platform Quillbot.com. It works not only as a website — QuillBot can also be installed as a browser extension to integrate AI with Google Docs.
On the main platform, you can select Russian as the working language, whereas the extension operates only with English texts. During the writing process, the AI not only highlights grammatical errors but also suggests paraphrasing options according to the selected style.
The main platform offers the following options:
  • Citation Generator
Formatting bibliographic references based on a link or DOI in accordance with a selected citation style
  • Quillbot Flow
A function that helps develop a plan for future research and overcome "blank page anxiety"
Example of QuillBot Flow in action
A possible outline of an academic article based on the query:
"Artificial Intelligence in Digital Diplomacy: New Opportunities and Challenges in the Context of the US-China Technological Race"
Editing an academic text is a crucial stage of research preparation, requiring not only grammatical corrections but also improvements in structure, logic, and style. Modern AI tools significantly facilitate this process, enabling researchers to analyze texts, optimize formulations, and align them with academic standards.
